The USS Houston (CA-30), a heavy cruiser, was sunk by the Japanese on March 1, 1942. Its surviving crew members were taken prisoners by the Japanese and used as slave laborers in Japan, Burma, Thailand, and elsewhere. In Burma and Thailand, they were forced to build the Burma-Thai Railway (Death Railway). One bridge of the railway came to be known as the infamous Bridge Over the River Kwai. This blog is dedicated to the heroic men of the USS Houston with thanks for their service and sacrifice.

Excellent! John Schwarz, Trudy Schwarz, Phil Gans and his daughter, Katrina and Myself and my wife, Karen were at the Asiatic Fleet reunion in DC and went to Arlington to place flowers on the graves of John B. and Irma Stefanek. It was an honor and a good time for reflection.
